Persistent fast kink magnetohydrodynamic waves detected in a quiescent prominence

چکیده

Small-scale, cyclic, transverse motions of plasma threads are usually seen in solar prominences, which often interpreted as magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves. Here, we observed small-scale decayless oscillations a quiescent prominence, and they appear to be omnipresent. The oscillatory periods the emission intensity proxy for line-of-sight Doppler shift about half period displacement oscillations. This feature agrees well with fast kink-mode waves flux tube. All moving oscillate transversally spatially phase exhibit no significant damping throughout visible segments, indicating that kink MHD persistently powered ongoing dissipating energy is transferred ambient quiet corona. However, our calculations suggest taken by alone can not support coronal heating on Sun.

Coronal transverse magnetohydrodynamic waves in a solar prominence.

Solar prominences are cool 10(4) kelvin plasma clouds supported in the surrounding 10(6) kelvin coronal plasma by as-yet-undetermined mechanisms. Observations from Hinode show fine-scale threadlike structures oscillating in the plane of the sky with periods of several minutes. We suggest that these represent Alfvén waves propagating on coronal magnetic field lines and that these may play a role...

Damping of Fast Magnetohydrodynamic Oscillations in Quiescent Filament Threads

High-resolution observations provide evidence of the existence of small-amplitude transverse oscillations in solar filament fine structures. These oscillations are believed to represent fast magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves and the disturbances are seen to be damped in short timescales of the order of 1 to 4 periods. We propose that, due to the highly inhomogeneous nature of the filament plasma ...

Resonantly Damped Kink Magnetohydrodynamic Waves in a Partially Ionized Filament Thread

Transverse oscillations of solar filament and prominence threads have been frequently reported. These oscillations have the common features of being of short period (2–10 min) and being damped after a few periods. Kink magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) wave modes have been proposed as responsible for the observed oscillations, whereas resonant absorption in the Alfvén continuum and ion-neutral collisio...

Magnetohydrodynamic Shearing Waves

I consider the nonaxisymmetric linear theory of an isothermal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) shear flow. The analysis is performed in the shearing box, a local model appropriate for a thin disk geometry. Linear perturbations in this model can be decomposed in terms of shearing waves (shwaves), which appear spatially as plane waves in a frame comoving with the shear. The time dependence of these wave...

The discovery of magnetohydrodynamic waves

The discovery of magnetohydrodynamic waves was a major breakthrough in plasma physics and its applications to space physics and fusion research. The waves were discovered by Hannes Alfvén and are therefore also called Alfvén Waves. The discovery was typical of Alfvén’s outstanding ability to derive results of great generality from analysis of specific problems—in this case, the sunspots and the...
